Hubei Enshi: Tea turns into "golden leaf"

2019-09-26

Tujia girls sing the Tujia welcome song in the Zouma Muer Mountain Tea Garden in Hefeng County, Enshi Prefecture, Hubei Province, welcoming tea merchants and tourists from all over the world.

"Picking up all the wild tea in the hillside, according to the current acquisition market, the cost for children to go to college is not worried." Fang Guoxiang, a villager of Fenghuang Village, Wuyang Township, Hefeng County, Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hubei Province, said that the wild tea in the barren mountains went out of the deep mountains at a price of 40 to 160 yuan per kilogram, becoming another income increasing industry for the villagers of Fenghuang Village. In late April alone, the villagers of Fenghuang Village sold more than 3000 kg of fresh leaves of wild tea, and the overall income of the villagers increased by nearly 120000 yuan.

Fang Guoxiang is a poor household with a registered card in Fenghuang Village, a family of three. He and his wife are not in good health, unable to engage in heavy physical labor, and have no other sources of income. Their children are still studying. In the past, the family lived only by planting corn, with little income and a tight life. "Now, as long as this piece of wild tea is well managed, the annual net income can increase by more than 15000 yuan."

Fenghuang Village is located in the southwest of Wuyang Township, with an average elevation of 1200 meters. It is a wonderful place for tea growing and has a long history of tea planting. In recent years, most of the young and middle-aged people in the village have gone to work outside, and most of the people who stay in the village to work are the elderly. The tea trees in the mountains are gradually left unattended.

In order to make full use of the unique wild tea resources in Fenghuang Village, the village poverty relief team and the village two committees actively contacted tea merchants to purchase fresh tea leaves in the mountain, introduced tea processing enterprises, and led the villagers to jointly develop and manage the wild tea resources, which could increase the villagers' income by more than one million yuan each year.

"My family has planted more than 10 mu of Dadu tea, which is applied with organic fertilizer and no pesticide. According to the market this year, the income of 50000 yuan is not a problem." In the ecological Dadu tea garden in Xunmei Village, Wuli Township, Hefeng County, Chen Fangbing, a poor farmer, told reporters.

At present, the tea planting area of Hefeng County is 395000 mu, and the tea gardens that have passed the certification of organic products and organic conversion products have reached more than 85000 mu, including nearly 10000 mu meeting the EU organic standard. In the development of tea industry, more than 11000 poverty-stricken households have been driven out of poverty through the "enterprise+base+farmers" model.

In the future, Hefeng County will combine the brand leadership, excavate the intangible cultural heritage of the Wanli tea ceremony, establish the Hefeng tea culture system, promote the integration of tea tourism, accelerate the promotion of the upgrading of the tea industry, and make tea become the "golden leaf" of rural revitalization.
